The answer is calories in and calories out. If you burn more calories in a day than you consume you’ll lose weight. That’s where your focus should be. Should you eat healthy foods? Absolutely! You want your body to be in prime condition, but, even the consumption of bad foods will result in weight loss if you burn more calories than you eat. You only need to concern yourself with two main things: How many calories did I eat and how many calories did I burn?
What should you eat? How much should you eat? Part one of weight loss success is monitoring your eating. It doesn’t mean letting yourself get hungry, that defeats the purpose by putting your body in starvation mode and encourages it to start storing fat. The trick is to eat healthy and a certain way.
Start by cutting back on sweets and sugary drinks. If you want to lower your calorie intake that’s the place to start. People say their bodies feel addicted to sugar and it takes a week or more before they don’t feel sugar cravings anymore. Be strong, it will be worth it. After cutting out the junk food the next step is to choose healthy foods when you eat. Can you eat a steak? Sure. But eat a small one. A rule of thumb for successful weight loss is to eat one portion, never eat seconds.
Eat Healthy In Reverse?
I’ve often heard it said we should eat in reverse if we want to be in good shape. What that means is Westerners usually eat small breakfasts and big suppers when they should be doing the opposite. What they should do is: Eat breakfast like a King, Eat Lunch like a queen, and eat supper like a pauper.
To fuel your body properly and burn the most calories you should put the most fuel in during the morning hours when your body is craving energy. You should consume less at the end of the day when your body is in rest mode and won’t burn as much.
A good recommendation is to eat a light supper and not eat again when it’s past 6pm. You can drink as much water as you like. You’d be surprised how well water cures hunger pains and it has zero calories. If your hungry before laying down drink a full glass. If you’re hungry in the night drink a full glass, it works wonders.
What Will The Scale Say?
Weigh yourself first thing in the morning right after your shower and before you eat. That’s the time you’ll get the truest picture of what you weigh because your body has an empty stomach. It’s not full of “false” weight. You should start noticing steady progress downward. Stick with it even on the days when the scale doesn’t change. It will be worth it in the end.
